Data on the eGov.kz Portal to be protected by two-factor authentication

Beginning from March 14, 2022, the eGov.kz Portal users will not be available to sign in by login/password and one-time SMS separately.

Data on the eGov.kz Portal is to be protected by two-factor authentication.

Now, the eGov.kz Portal users will need to:

  • enter login/IIN;
  • enter the password;
  • confirm the login by entering a one-time SMS code, which is sent to the phone number registered in the Mobile Citizens Database (hereinafter: MCD).

This ensures a high level of security.

Authentication methods involving sign in using digital signature (DS), biometrics and QR code scanning through the eGov Mobile application will remain unaltered.

To get the services from the eGov.kz Portal, it is necessary to have an active phone number registered in MCD. If the number is blocked or outdated, it is necessary to update it in the eGov.kz personal account or contact the call center by calling 1414.

2FA, or two—factor authentication is an identification method, where you need to confirm an account in two different ways. Thus, it is much more difficult for offenders, who for various reasons may need user data, to gain access to both the password and the phone at the same time.
