5 years of eGov Mobile: public services on a smartphone

Five years have passed since launching the updated eGov Mobile application. Today, eGov Mobile, which provides public services to approximately 4 million monthly users, reaches every second citizen of Kazakhstan.

The first version of the app was launched in 2012 and was called mGov. Electronic public services have been introduced, such as receiving address and pension statements, property and encumbrances statements, and a service for paying fines, taxes and state duties. By 2019, about 70 services were provided to the public via the mGov application.

In 2019, the product underwent rebranding and redesign, from which point the already familiar eGov Mobile became available to all. A key point was the introduction of biometrics in 2020, which helped reduce barriers to accessing public services, including during the pandemic.

In the 5 years since the update of the mobile application, there has been a 15-fold increase in the number of users and today 90% of public services are available via eGov Mobile. Monthly active users increased to 4 million and daily active users to over 190 thousand. The eGov Mobile offers 208 public services and 759 services with subtypes for individuals on the e-License portal, as well as 34 eGov Business services.

Now, thanks to the application, there is no need to carry physical documents, as the introduction of the Digital Documents service has enabled Kazakhstani citizens to use the digital version of their documents more than 13 million times. Later, this service was integrated into popular banking applications for the convenience of citizens.

Moreover, one of the eGov Mobile technological solutions is the capability to get DS and sign documents using a QR code. To date, this method of signing has been used around 9 million times and the number continues to grow.

The eGov Mobile application is now available for download on the App Store, Play Market and HUAWEI AppGallery, and supports both iOS and Android mobile devices. The number of eGov Mobile users based on iOS is more than 3.6 million, on Android - more than 5.1 million and on the HUAWEI platform - more than 850 thousand users.

In July 2024, a new component of mobile e-Government was launched, which is the eGov Business application for entrepreneurs. Thanks to the development of the mobile application, representatives of small and medium-sized businesses can get public services using their smartphones. With just a few clicks, users of the eGov Business application can register the first head of a legal entity, apply for the issuance of a DS, sign various documents via QR, etc.

Today, the eGov Mobile application is a platform for government services. The eGov Mobile is an important tool for citizens' interaction with the state and confirms the growing interest and trust on the part of users. With many innovations still to come, the NITEC team is confidently moving towards its goal of making public services as accessible and convenient as possible for every citizen of Kazakhstan.
