Open Government capabilities presented to Nazarbayev University students
Lecture on Open Government was conducted for students from Public Policy School of Nazarbayev University. Zh. Myrzabekov, Deputy Chairman of National Information Technologies JSC, invited as a lecturer, introduced the ways of Open Government tools` efficient application to the politicians-to-be.
As it is known, in February, 2017, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recommended Kazakhstan to involve a larger number of participants to the Open Government development, including non-commercial organizations, journalists, scientists and expert community.
During the lecture, students familiarized with the capabilities of Open Data Portal in various life areas from the selection of place to live, assessment of crime-prone areas and finishing with writing of analytical works and researches. The audience`s biggest interest was triggered by discussion of capabilities that might appear if to open data from the State Revenue Committee, which keeps information on all fiscal cheques and by advantages the analysis of such data presents for marketing managers, businesses and analysts. This also includes GDP calculations, consumer demand analysis, etc.
As it was mentioned byZh. Myrzabekov, Open Data Portal is a key component of all Open Governments of the world. To date, over 2000 datasets have been published by government agencies in open access. The portal has interface that enable directly connecting to server and integrating data through making queries.
Also, as part of the lecture, Zh. Myrzabekov told how to use open data as well as external systems and how to overlap them to obtain a new information products.
“Open Government data will serve as starting point for Master`s Degree students of Public Policy School of Nazarbayev University as well as good foundation for writing of dissertations on various topics. Also, it is you, the generation of future managers, who should actively use Open Government capabilities and offer new ideas for its further development ” Zh. Myrzabekov appealed to students.
For reference: Today, Kazakhstani Open Government provides the citizens with capability to use five interactive portals, which are: Open Data; Open Laws and Regulations; Open Dialogue; Open Budgets and Government Agencies’ Performance Assessment.
