Extending digital signature validity is possible online

Digital signature can be re-issued online without a citizen’s visiting Government for Citizens Public Corporation branch (CSC). The service is available on the website of National Certification Authority of the Republic of Kazakhstan, www.pki.gov.kz.

It is significant that reissuance of a digital signature in this way is only possible prior to expiry thereof. Otherwise, user will have to apply to Citizen Service Center (CSC).

Extending the digital signature validity is quite easy, with the procedure taking no longer than 5 minutes.

First, user needs to access His/her Personal Cabinet on the NCA website signing in through the still valid digital signature. In the menu that has appeared, he/she should “Receive digital signature”, then select his/her key for signing by indicating its storage location and click on “Save”. Then he/she is offered to view the user agreement and indicate his/her email and geographical locality. In the same application form, the recipient should indicate the location for storage of the new digital signature (in file system, on Kaztoken, etc.) and press the “Submit application” button which application is to be signed by the still existing digital signature. After that, he/she needs to refresh the page where the status will be displayed as “Registration certificates were issued under application”, and click on “Download the certificates”. This is the end of the new digital signature obtainment process.

To view the guidelines for obtainment and extension of DS, you can also visit the relevant section on the e-Gov portal home page, (www.egov.kz).

DS validity is 1 year from the date of issuance, and upon the expiry of the term the signature becomes invalid.  According to National Certification Authority of the RoK, the term was set to ensure strength and safety of cryptographic keys, and also to maintain up-to-datedness and optimal size of the list of the revoked DS.

For reference:

Digital signature (DS) is a set of digital characters certifying authenticity of e-document, its authorship and integrity of content. DS is equated to the handwritten signature pursuant to the Law of the RoK as of January 7, 2003, No. 370-II “On e-Document and Digital Signature”.  By using DS Kazakhstani citizens can obtain public services on the e-Gov portal and through the public access points installed in “Government for Citizens” public corporation (CSC) across the country. DS can also be used in other information systems integrated with National Certification Authority of the RoK.
